Lauren Bailey

Lauren Bailey is a trained Physiotherapist and triathlete from Homebush Bay in Sydney, Australia. She graduated from the University of Sydney in 2007 and has worked with a number of different athletes in a wide range of sports including both local and international teams. Always involved in sport herself she competed nationally as a gymnast, later going on to running and marathon racing and most recently triathlon. After experiencing a cycling accident whilst racing in Ironman Australia 2010 and sustaining back, neck and knee injuries she has been rehabilitating for the last year. With the help of Spidertech tape she has recently returned to racing in 2011 completing Huskisson Australia long course championships and Sydney ITU championships before returning to take back on Ironman Australia in May 2011. Upon finally obtaining the ironman name she now aims to continue progressing in triathlon and running around Australia with the ultimate goal to qualify for the Kona Ironman World Championships in the future.

"Self torture some call it... but for me it's about getting the absolute maximum out of the body and setting what seem like impossible goals and actually achieving them! I embarked on a mission to become an ironman around two years ago and with the help of Spidertech have recently achieved this goal at Ironman Australia 2011. Upon beginning triathlon in 2009 I quickly jumped into long coarse racing where to my surprise I ended up placing 4th in the half ironman series in my first year. Ironman seemed to be the natural progression from this point and became my ultimate goal. Unfortunately this quickly came to a halt when after months of preparation I crashed my bike 30km into my first attempt at Ironman in 2010. I sustained head, back and knee injuries and spent the rest of the year rehabilitating. Luckily as I am a trained physiotherapist myself I was ensured the best rehabilitation possible. I then discovered Spidertech tape which ultimately got me back racing again this season and saw me through Huskisson Australia Long Course Championships, Sydney ITU championships and finally my return to Ironman Australia this year without any major injury woes!"
